3rd day will go to Montenegro Kotor which is right next to Croatia Dubrovnik.
If you still didn’t review the 1st day and 2nd day please refer below link.
I think Montenegro Kotor is still not known as nice place to visit except in Europe. For Japanese or Asian people still Montenegro is also not familar country.
As known that Croatia World Heritage Dubrovnik is also called Pearl of Adriadic ocean, Montenegro World Heirtage Kotor is called treasure of Adriadic ocean.
Both place is very nice place for Adriadic ocean.
Treasure of Adriadic ocean Kotor day trip to Montenegro
From Dubrovnik to Montenegro Koro you can take day trip.
I used Viator. And the fee was around 65 USD.
Montenegro full day trip from Dubrovnik
At first will move by using bus from Dubrovnik port to Montenegro port.
We will ride the ship which together with bus.
You can also walk around inside the ship. At that day weather was os nice so outside was very comfortable.
Next we take stop at Montenegro resort city Budva.
Montenegro is a country blessed with abundant nature, with 73km of beaches out of the 293km coastline.
The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well-preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife.
In the tour lunch meal is not include so it’s free to choose restaurant. I choose the restaurant right near to the ocean.
During lunch it was bit cloudy so that was unluncky. But the ocean here is because of many boat was in & out it was not so clear.
Budva is the city has more than 2,500 years history and 1 of the old city in Montenegro.
Free time is quite many bso after lunch you can also join the sightseeing there.
Budva is fort same like Dubrovnik.
In the past on 1979 had a serious earthquake and most of the old town was destroyed but now it’s recovered like it used to be.
Try to find the nice path for your photo there are so many place which make the photogenic picture there.
Montenegro price of commodities is cheaper than other Euro country. So it’s not going to be waste if you buy souvenirs here.
At Kotor also you can buy but some you can only buy at Budva only.
As you can see in the map there are many beach along the coast.
Visitors are attracted by the natural environment of the Gulf of Kotor and by the old town of Kotor. Kotor is registered as part of the World Heritage Site as Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor. And becoming popular for the sightseeing place in Europe these days.
Kotor has dropped an anchor between the gray mountains and the sea, and veiled its life behind the high and wide ramparts. Its bulwarks seem to have been eternally growing rock tendrils along the hill, up to the old fortress that overlooks the town.
It is a dramatic town where the present lives in the maze of medieval churches, cathedrals, Venetian palaces and pillars. Kotor is made up of contrasts – the old squares with modern cafes, the sounds of serenade and live music, the echo of the footsteps down the narrow cobblestone alleys and the lazy purr of cats lying under the balconies with wrought iron railings, decorated with petunias.
In the evening, the walls of Kotor are as bright as the torches from a pagan ritual. When the time for carnivals comes, the streets become crowded, the torches become one with the fireworks, and all of Kotor transforms into one big spark.
Kotor’s fortifications had grown up St John’s Hill from the 9th until the 19th century. There are 1350 steps to the St John’s Fortress at the top for those craving for magnificent views over the town and the bay.
There are three gates at the Old Town that lead to the nearby towns scattered around the Bay of Kotor. Kotor also possesses the Fairy Gate – the arching rock above the town. Legend says that only the fairy’s favorites, direct descendants of the old sailors and founders of the town, can see her sitting on the rock and waiting for the golden ship on which she will set sail into the distant world only to return and confirm that Kotor is the most beautiful town in the world.
Visit Montenegro
You may also see the official website of Kotor if you are intrested more.
At Kotor you will walk around with the tour guide and they will explain about the old town at Kotor.
Once you enter inside the city wall point of landmark of Kotor clock tower is the first thing you can find. It’s 1 of the landmark for sightseeing and this clock tower was built in 1602.
Personally I like the photo of Venetian Fortifications of Kotor taking from outside of city wall.
Inisde old town there are so many place to see.
Church of St. Luke which was built in 1195 for Serbian Orthodox Church, Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, muzeum and the restaurant using the old town building. And the most valuable in old town Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Sv. Tripun).
Except the 2 tower next to Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Sv. Tripun) all is maintain from 1166. Fresco painting at the nave and the arch at the side corridor still maintain as well. There is a relic exhibition room on the 2nd floor where you can see the Bible, old books and others old items.
The tour take take to finish and I want to climb the city wall so I didn’t see much inside the old town.
To got othe city wall you need to go from the gate like inside the picture.
But you need to pay the entrance fee it’s 8 Euro (10 USD) per person.
To climb until the top you need to climb more than 1,350 steps if you don’t have enough stamina you can just go until Church of our lady of Remedy which is around 10 to 15 minutes from the entrance.
For myself because of time was rashing and it was almost to rain I couldn’t reach there so just take photo from the point where I was.
Even form my point you can take beaituful picture with Kotor old town and Kotor vay so if you can gonup higher it will be more nice.
Day trip might be not enough time to explore inside Kotor so maybe better stay 1 night there.
The reason why so many cats at Kotor
There are cats everywhere in Montenegro, especially in Kotor. In Dubrovnik and Budva also had many, but probably there are more in Kotor.
This is because Kotor people loves cats.
They love because in the past during medieval Europe era epidemic caused by the mouse devastated Kotor
But the cats defeat the mouse together with the epidemic and save Kotor city so that makes to treat the cats very careful in Kotor and they love it.
On the way back to Dubrovnik from Kotor we visited Perast.
There are 1 small island named Our lady of rocks which can enter by using boat from Perast.
FYI this boat fee is not included so you need to pay 5 Euro (5 USD) per person for both way.
Whether you go or not is up to you and the people who didn’t go was just taking break at cafe.
It is called Our Lady of the Rocks, and is an artificial island where the church was reclaimed in the Middle Age of Europe.
You mat enter to the church there but the entrance fee is 2 Euro (2.5 USD) per person.
Seems like church & museum was combined. It’s allow to take photo inside.
It’s very small island so you can walk around in few minutes.
Our lady of rock is located in the wilderness surrounded by fjords, the sea and forests.
From the view you can see there is very magnificent.
From Our lady of rock there is 1 more island named St. George island but you are not allowed to enter. From the boat or from here you can also take intresting picture with these nature.
And this is the last point to visit in the tour.
At last I forget to mention in the beginning but please not to forget the passport duirng this Montenegro day trip. When cross the boarder from Croatia you must show the passport for the stamp of enter and exit.
I guess during most of the trip holding passport is normal so shouldn’t be any problem.
Summary of the Montenegro day trip
